He was teaching the goodness of Hinduism to his followers, which I'm sure many took positive attributes from. Putting anyone on a pedastal puts everyone at disappointment because these days everyone is corrupt in their own ways. Follow the virtues of hinduism, be a good person, and everything will be how it will be. Yes, it is tragic to learn of his true ways, but people have not necessarily wasted their life and money.
