Susan Boyle, the 48-year-old frumpy church volunteer who has been wowing people world-wide with her performances on English television program .Britain’s Got Talent has lost her dream of performing before the British Royal Family in tonight’s finale.

Boyle’s dreams were shattered when tele-votes from the public voted Essex dance group Diversity the winner of the finale.

Boyle chose the same song for the finale that shot her to fame, I Dreamed a Dream from the musical Les Miserables

In addition to performing at Britain’s annual Royal Variety Performance, attended by members of the British Royal Family, the winner of tonight’s program walked away with a £100,000 ($US159,000) prize.

Last week Boyle’s performance of Memory from the musical Cats saw here garner an avalanche of tele-votes from people voting at home to beat seven other performers and advance to the final round this week.

The winner of tonight’s finale was chosen by public tele-votes, but unlike American Idol each ballot cast costs money — 50 pence or about 80 cents.
